Chincoteague Pony Foals (11 - 20) For Sale With Info
This year's Annual Pony Auction will be conducted on-line, as it was last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Restrictions were lifted too late for the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company to develop plans for an in-person auction this year at the CVFC Carnival Grounds on Main Street. Next year's sale - on Thursday, 28 July - will take place on Chincoteague Island, as usual.
From the CVFC: "This year's Auction will start on July 22nd at 7:00 pm EDT. It will end on July 29th at 7:00 pm EDT.
The auction is being held by sporthorseauctions.com and you MUST register with them!! Once you register with them you will also be able to see the rules and regulations of the auction. The photos of the foals will be on the website a few days prior and there WILL BE A CLEAR DESIGNATION of buybacks on the listings.
Payment due date is Friday, July 30th NO EXCEPTIONS
Final Foal Pick up date is August 1st. NO EXCEPTIONS
ALL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ONLINE AUCTION WILL BE ON sporthorseauctions.com
Understand? ALL INFO will be on sporthorseauctions.com "
This year, the CVFC has announced - after the pandemic restrictions were lifted: "The northern herd will be rounded up on Sunday , July 25th starting at approximately 6:00 am. Once rounded up and a brief rest, the mares and foals will be trailered to the carnival grounds and the remaining northern herd will be released back. The southern herd will be rounded up on Monday, July 26th starting at approximately 6:00 am. Once rounded up and after a brief rest, the mares and foals will be trailered to the carnival grounds and the remaining southern herd will be released. No, Rip is not happy about this as he thinks he is the star of the show but he will be ok for a few days until his girls return. Now, big question.... Can the public view the round ups? We haven't been told that you can't and now that most restrictions have been lifted we assume its ok for you all to come watch. If you haven't been vaccinated we respectfully ask that you maintain social distancing and wear a mask if in the crowd."
If there are any changes in this information, I will pass it along here in this blog.
All of the photos I will be posting were taken by, and are the property of, DSC Photography. They make their living from selling photos of the ponies. They have a marvelous website, where you can look at and purchase a huge variety of photos of the ponies, including this year's foals. You can visit their website at: https://dscphotography.net/ If you purchase their photos, their copyright info is not on the photo.
Here are foals 11 through 20 - with birth number, date of birth, color and sex, and the name of the dam first with the sire named second (because we don't have that many stallions compared to the mares)... Ponies with an asterisk (*) before their names are direct descendants of Misty of Chincoteague. I try to post views of both sides, and occasionally the face, or rump, of each foal:
11 13 April back colt Pappy's Pony and Riptide (Surfer's Riptide)
At left, with foal 6 at right (same sire)
12 15 April bay pinto filly Doc Amrien and Hoppy (Effie's Poppa Bear)
Unfortunately, this foal, #13, was found deceased less than 2 weeks after birth
Photo taken day of birth
14 19 April chestnut pinto filly Sonny's Legacy and Riptide
15 20 April palomino colt Lorna Dune and Ken
16 22 April chestnut filly with partial blue left eye Dreamer's Gift and Ken
17 23 April bay filly Tunie (aka Queenie) and Hoppy
**** Personally, if I were buying a foal this year, I'd snatch this one! Good bone, excellent parents, and should be 14.2 to 15 hands when fully grown. A beauty!! (And since she's an un-marked bay, she'll probably sell for much less than others...) ****
18 24 April *palomino pinto filly *WH Sundance and DLS2 (Don Leonard Stud II)
19 28 April palomino pinto filly Ella of Assateague and Prince (Tornado's Prince of Tides)
20 29 April buckskin colt Kachina Mayli Mist and Ace (Ace's Black Tie Affair)
Dad, Ace, is behind him
