40th Breeders Cup Finished Without Injury Today - Results, Purse Winnings and Betting Pay-Outs

 No injuries or accidents were reported about the participants in today's Breeders Cup Races.  Only one injury occurred yesterday during the five 2-year-old races: an un-displaced condylar fracture/crack in the foreleg of Mountain Bear (IRE), who finished in second place in Friday's Turf race for colts.  At the end of the race, the jockey pulled up and dismounted, and the colt was taken off track in an ambulance. A series of x-rays were taken, he was placed in a cast, and the vets expect him to be able to resume training in 4 weeks.    Todays races were for horses aged 3 years and up, and the 9 Breeders Cup races today showcased 93 horses representing the breeders from 8 countries (11 countries if you count the breeding places of sires and dams).      I realize that I kept referring to descendants of Sunday Silence in my listings of runners in the races for today.   I was a big fan of Sunday Silence in 1988 and 1989, his 2 years of ...

Breeders Cup Juvenile Race Results - Complete Finish Order, Bet Pay Outs, Winnings

 Today's Breeders Cup races were for the juveniles (2-year-olds) only.  There were several late scratches in the 5 Juvenile races; 2 were made by the HISA veterinary teams during early race day check-ups:  Givemethebeatboys (IRE) in the Turf Sprint, and River Tiber (IRE) in the Colts Turf.  Both trainers of the colts disagreed with the vets' decisions.  The trainers of The Wine Steward in the Juvenile, and Grand Mo the First in the Colts Turf, also scratched their entries.    There was  one injury incurred during the races today.  Mountain Bear (IRE) finished second in the Colts Turf, and was immediately pulled up by his jockey. Arcangelo Wins Belmont Stakes & Makes Jena Antonucci First Female Trainer To Win

 Arcangelo, the gray/roan ridgling son of Arrogate won the 1 and 1/2 mile Belmont Stakes in 2:29.23 today.  In doing so, he made history for his trainer, Jena M. Antonucci.  His win made Ms. Antonucci the first female trainer to win the Belmont Stakes.  This was the 15th time that Javier Castellano had been in the irons for the Belmont Stakes, and this was his first win, too.  Not to mention a dead heat for 4th place, making 2 superfecta payouts...  A day of firsts. Arcangelo wins the 155th Belmont Stakes   National Treasure, the front-running winner of the Preakness, led the way for much of the race.  The first quarter was run in 23.63 seconds; the half in 47.69; and 3/4s in 1:12.56; then the others came running.  Arcangelo was the best, winning by 1 and 1/2 lengths over Forte, who was a nose in front of Tapit Trice.  three-quarters of a length behind Tapit Trice, Angel of Empire and Hit Show were a dead heat for 4th place.   ...

Pretty Mischievous Wins Acorn Stakes By a Head

 In her first start since winning the Kentucky Oaks, Pretty Mischievous faced a stretch-long side-by-side duel with Florida-bred Dorth Vader, to win by a head.  The light bay daughter of Into Mischief took home a paycheck of $275,000 after winning the 1 1/6 mile race at Belmont Park in 1:43.33.
