Chincoteague Pony Auction of 2021 - On-Line Sale Begins Today - Foals 28 thru 52
This year's Annual Pony Auction will be conducted on-line, as it was last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Restrictions were lifted too late for the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company to develop plans for an in-person auction this year at the CVFC Carnival Grounds on Main Street. Next year's sale - on Thursday, 28 July - will take place on Chincoteague Island, as usual.
This year's Auction will start on July 22nd at 7:00 pm EDT. It will end on July 29th at 7:00 pm EDT. The auction is being held by sporthorseauctions.com and you must register with them to place a bid or purchase a foal. After the auction is complete, I will post one photo of each foal and the price paid for it - on Saturday, 31 July.
All of the photos I will be posting were taken by, and are the property of, DSC Photography. They make their living from selling photos of the ponies. They have a marvelous website, where you can look at and purchase a huge variety of photos of the ponies, including this year's foals. You can visit their website at: https://dscphotography.net/ If you purchase their photos, their copyright info is not on the photo.
The CVFC chose 10 fillies as the BuyBack foals of this year. The letters BB will appear before the foal number in the listing. A BuyBack is purchased by an individual, or group of people, who pay the price they bid for the pony; but the pony stays in the care of the CVFC for the rest of it's life. The purchaser of the BuyBack gets to name it, and have their photo taken with the foal (during normal auction years - I don't know if this will happen this year, due to pandemic rules still being in place). Foals on the BuyBack lists usually produce the highest bids.
You will notice there are no listings for foal numbers 13 and 24; both of these foals unfortunately died within two weeks of birth from unknown causes.
Here are foals 28 through 52 - with birth number, date of birth, color and sex, and the name of the dam first with the sire named second (because we don't have that many stallions compared to the mares)... Ponies with an asterisk (*) before their names are direct descendants of Misty of Chincoteague. I try to post views of both sides, and occasionally the face, or rump, of each foal:
