2022 Kentucky Derby Post Positions and Betting Odds

It's that time of the year - Saturday, 7 May is the first Saturday in May, and the 148th running of the Kentucky Derby will be held at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.  This year the 1 and 1/4 mile (10 furlongs) race will have a guaranteed purse of $3 million.  All entries will carry 126 pounds.  Post time is scheduled for 6:57 EDT, or 4:57 MDT (my time).
There will be a full field of 20 3-year-old Thoroughbreds, based upon the Kentucky Derby point-qualifying system.  Two colts are not running due to leg and hoof problems - Morello was the first to drop out, and Un Ojo was the second.   There are two colts essentially on "stand-by" mode, in case one or two already declared starters have to scratch due to illness or injury.  Those two colts are Rich Strike and Rattle N Roll.
You know, if you've read my blog before, that I look at things oddly...  All entries this year are colts.  Seventeen of the twenty were bred in Kentucky, but Simplification was bred in Florida, Crown Pride was bred in Japan, and Messier was bred in Ontario.  There are 3 gray/roans, 3 chestnuts, and 14 bays or dark bays.  Four stallions are represented by two runners each - Pioneerof the Nile, Gun Runner, Race Day and Not This Time.  Mike Smith will be the oldest jockey, riding Taiba.
Prior to the post position draw, Epicenter was the betting favorite.  This bay colt by Not This Time has accrued the most qualifying points from other races.  Epicenter drew the 3 gate, and became the second morning-line betting choice.  Zandon, a dark bay son of Upstart, became the morning-line betting favorite with his draw of the 10 gate.  Zandon is ranked second in qualifying points.

Following is the full field of 20 (plus the 2 stand bys), listed by gate position and registered name, morning line betting odds, sire, and dam.
