Pretty Mischievous Wins 149th Kentucky Oaks for Godolphin Racing Stables

Pretty Mischievous, a bay daughter of Into Mischief and Pretty City Dancer, won the Kentucky Oaks by a neck this afternoon.  Gambling Girl was second, and betting favorite Wet Paint was third.  The final time was 1:49.77 for the 9 furlongs on a fast track; the first 1/2 mile was covered in 46.96 seconds.  The filly is owned by Godolphin Racing Stables and trained by County Cork, Ireland native Brendan Walsh.

   The complete order of finish for the Kentucky Oaks is:  1. Pretty Mischievous (purse winnings $705,250);  2.  Gambling Girl ($227,500);  3. Wet Paint ($113,750);  4. The Alys Look ($56,875);  5. Dorth Vader ($34,125);  6. Flying Connection ($12,500);  7. Defining Purpose ($12,500);  8. Mimi Kakushi ($12,500);  9. Wonder Wheel ($12,500);  10. Southlawn ($12,500);  11. Affirmative Lady ($12,500);  12. And Tell Me Nolies ($12,500);  13. Botanical ($12,500); 14. Promiseher America ($12,500).
I always list betting payouts for a $2 bet - so here goes for the Run for the Lilies, 2023:  Pretty Mischievous to win paid $22.74; Gambling Girl to place $12.84; and Wet Paint to show $13.80.  The $2 exacta paid $403.14; the trifecta paid $7,988.56; and the superfecta paid $30,782.

****  Late update on the Kentucky Derby - 4 colts have been scratched, leaving a field of 19 in the Run for the Roses tomorrow.  Practical Move was the first colt scratched with an elevated temperature.  Lord Miles was scratched by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission as the second scratch, with the KHRC suspending the colt's trainer indefinitely, due to 2 unusual deaths after racing in his stable.  The third scratch was Continuar (JPN), whose trainer decided the colt was not fit enough to run the length of the Derby.  This afternoon, Skinner was scratched due to an elevated temperature.  The three stand-by colts are all running in the Derby, so we will see saddle blanket numbers1 through 8, 11 through 18, and 21 through 23.  King Russell, with number 23, will break from gate number 19.  ****
