Pretty Mischievous Wins Acorn Stakes By a Head

 In her first start since winning the Kentucky Oaks, Pretty Mischievous faced a stretch-long side-by-side duel with Florida-bred Dorth Vader, to win by a head.  The light bay daughter of Into Mischief took home a paycheck of $275,000 after winning the 1 1/6 mile race at Belmont Park in 1:43.33.

  Pretty Mischievous was in front by a head over Dorth Vader; four lengths behind was Occult, who was a 1/2 length in front of Munny's Gold.   The complete order of finish, with purse money earned follows:
1.   Pretty Mischievous    $275,000
2.   Dorth Vader    $100,000
3.   Occult    $60,000
4.   Munny's Gold    $30,000
5.   Accede     $20,000
6.   Randomized    $5,000
7.   Frosty O Toole    $5,000
8.   Goodgirl Badhabits    $5,000

  As always, I show betting payouts for a $2 bet.  Pretty Mischievous paid $5.80 to win; Dorth Vader paid $8.60 to place; and Occult paid $7.90 to show.    A $2 perfecta paid $47.80; a trifecta paid $291; and a superfecta paid $1,196.

Nine Breeders' Cup Races From Del Mar on Saturday, 2 November 2024

 The horses that participate in the Breeders' Cup races each year are at the top of their games; they have to be nominated, and they have to earn points to qualify to enter such high profile races.  The Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act (HISA) became law after being passed by Congress in 2020.  HISA was created to implement, for the first time, a national, uniform set of integrity and safety rules that are applied consistently to every Thoroughbred racing participant and racetrack facility throughout the United States and it's territories. One Hundred Chincoteague Pony Foals Born in 2025 (So Far) For the CVFC's 100th Annual Pony Penning and Auction!

In 1925, the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company began their management of the annual Pony Penning that had been taking place on Assateague and Chincoteague Islands in Virginia for over a hundred years.  Pony Penning was an annual event when the owners of the livestock, running free on both islands, were rounded up and identified.  The stock that the owner did not need in the foreseeable future, was sold off at an agreed upon price, and was usually removed from the islands.  It had been a well-known event for many years, with people gathering from the Carolinas, Virginia, Washington D. C., Delmarva, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.    When the CVFC began managing Pony Penning, they got county and state permission for a Carnival, set up games and different types of races (boating, swimming and horse and pony), as well as having the Pony Sale.  And the CVFC advertised the Carnival and Pony Penning events in newspapers.  It became a big event ....
