Breeders Cup 2024 Race Results and Payouts

I did not post a preview of the Breeders Cup races this year, as my roommate and I are both fighting cancer, and I did not have the time to do my usual research and write my usual two columns.  Having spent this afternoon at the Cancer Center, I have just finished watching films of the Juvenile Breeders Cup races, and will write my usual report.
The Breeders Cup is being run at Del Mar Racetrack in California this year and next year.

The first Breeders Cup race of the day was the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint, run at 5 furlongs (5/8 mile).  All the entries this year were colts, and they all carried 122 pounds; the guaranteed purse was $1 million.  There was a full field of 12 runners; Out On Bail was scratched due to a knee chip, and Pali's Kitten drew in.  Half of the field were bred in the US; 5 were bred in Ireland; and one in Great Britain.
Magnum Force (IRE) won the 5 furlong race in 56.36 seconds.  The bay son of Mehmas (IRE) finished a half-length ahead of Arizona Blaze (GB), who was a half length in front of Governor Sam, who was a nose ahead of Big Mojo (IRE).
The full order of finish, with winnings earned, was as follows:  First:  Magnum Force (IRE),  $520,000; second:  Arizona Blaze (GB),  $170,000;  third:  Governor Sam,  $90,000;  fourth:  Big Mojo (IRE),  $50,000;  fifth:  Whistlejacket (IRE),  $30,000;  sixth:  Aesterius (IRE),  $20,000;  seventh:  Ides of March (IRE),  $10,000;  eighth:  Ecoro Seig,  $10,000;  ninth:  Jet Sweep Joe,  $10,000;  tenth:  Gate to Wire,  $10,000;  eleventh:  Pali Kitten;  twelfth:  Shareholder.
As always, my reports on bet returns are based on a flat $2 bet...  A win ticket on First Magnum (IRE) paid $27; a place ticket on Arizona Blaze (GB) paid $22.40; and a show bet on Governor Sam paid $6.40. A $2 exacta paid $401.80; a trifecta paid $3,821.20; and a superfecta paid $20,793.

The second Breeders Cup race was the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies, run at 1 and 1/16 miles (8.5 furlongs).  The fillies all carried 122 pounds, and were racing for a guaranteed purse of $2 million.  There were originally 10 entries, but Non Compliant was scratched due to a "hot foot," according to her trainer.  All nine entries were US bred, with the exception of American Bikini, who is from Japan.
Immersive, the bay daughter of Nyquist, remained undefeated today, winning the Juvie Fillies by an impressive 4 1/2 lengths in 1:44.36.  Vodka With a Twist followed, finishing 1 1/2 lengths ahead of Quickick, who was one length in front of Scottish Lassie.
The full order of finish, with winnings earned, was as follows:  First:  Immersive,  $1,040,000; second:  Vodka With a Twist,  $340,000;  third:  Quickick,  $180,000;  fourth:  Scottish Lassie,  $100,000;  fifth:  La Cara,  $60,000;  sixth:  Nooni,  $40,000;  seventh:  Otomena Shacho,  $20,000; eighth:  Snowyte,  $20,000; ninth:  American Bikini (JPN), $20,000.
A $2 win ticket on Immersive paid $6; a place bet on Vodka With a Twist paid $6.80; and a show ticket on Quickick paid $4.  A correct perfecta bet paid $48.40; a good trifecta ticket paid $203.60; and a superfecta returned $691.60.

The next race was the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, run at 1 and 1/16 miles (8.5 furlongs).  Again, all of the fillies carried 122 pounds; and the purse was a guaranteed $1 million.  A full field of 14 entries appeared, with 10 ladies bred in the US, 3 bred in Ireland, and 1 bred in Great Britain.
Here, also, Lake Victoria (IRE), the bay daughter of Frankel (GB), remained undefeated.  She finished the race in 1:34.28, 1 1/2 lengths in front of May Day Ready.  May Day Ready was 1 length ahead of Nitrogen, who was a 1/2 length before Fiery Lucy (GB).

The juvenile Breeders Cup series ended with the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf, run at 1 1/16 miles (8.5 furlongs), with all contenders carrying 122 pounds.  Originally, there was a full field of 14 entries, with two colts on the waiting list in case of scratches.  Minaret Station and Tenacious Leader both scratched, and the two colts on the waiting list also scratched.  So a field of 12 raced for a guaranteed purse of $1 million.  Of those 12 entries, 4 were bred in the US, 5 were bred in Ireland, 1 in Japan, 1 in Great Britain, and 1 in France.
The morning line betting favorite was New Century (GB) at 5 to 2.  The race was slightly delayed when Aomori City (FR) broke out of the starting gate before the start, and had to be checked by the vet, before starting the race.
The race was won by Henri Matisse (IRE), a bay son of Wootten Bassett (GB), by a neck in the time of 1:34.48.  Iron Man Cal finished in second, a half-length before Aomori City (FR), who was 1 1/4 lengths ahead of New Century (GB).
The full order of finish, with winnings earned, was as follows:  First:  Henri Matisse (IRE),  $520,000;  second:  Iron Man Cal,  $170,000;  third:  Aomori City (FR),  $90,000;  fourth:  New Century,  $50,000;  fifth:  Dream On,  $30,000;  sixth:  Noble Confessor,  $20,000;  seventh:  Zulu Kingdom (IRE),  $10,000; eighth: Al Qudra (IRE),  $10,000;  ninth:  Satono Carnaval (JPN),  $10,000; tenth:  Seagulls Eleven(IRE),  $10,000;  eleventh:  The Waco Kid (IRE);  twelfth:  Mentee.
If you placed a $2 win bet on Henri Matisse (IRE), you earned $9.80; a place ticket on Iron Man Cal returned $21.40; and a show bet on Aomori City (FR) paid $8.40.  The exacta paid $110.80; the trifecta returned $1,870; and a good superfecta got you $9,632.40.
